Liposuction

About

Liposuction is a a method of removing of fat to improve body contour, hence it is sometimes called Liposculpture.  Liposuction is best suited for localised deposits of fat rather than general fat loss. It is particularly effective when used to target stubborn areas of fat that have proven resistant to diet and exercise. Common areas for liposuction are the abdomen, the flanks (love handles), thighs, arms, and chin. Best results are seen in those with good skin tone and elasticity. Older patients and those with poor skin quality may have excess skin after fat is removed as the skin has less ability to contract. For this reason it is not usually a good option for those with associated skin excess or fat rolls where loose skin will be left. The fat cells that are removes are gone forever, but the remaining fat cells can store more than enough fat to make up for them.

Hospital

The procedure is performed in a Fully accredited hospital under General Anaesthesia. Small volume liposuction cases may go home the same day, large volume cases where more than 5 L is removed should stay overnight.

Recovery

It is recommended to have at least 1-2 weeks off work and exercise after liposuction. Swelling is usual after this procedure and it can take upto 3 months for your final result to be seen.
