Breast Lift

About

Breast Lift surgery, or Mastopexy as it is also known, is similar to Breast Reduction surgery in that it lifts and reshapes the breast, repositions the nipple and areola, but no breast tissue is removed. This surgery may suit you if you have deflated breasts from pregnancy, breast feeding or significant weight loss. Your breasts may have not only lost volume, but skin quality, with drooping and sagging of the breast and nipple. As we get older the breast become more fatty and less fibrous and ongoing gravitational forces place stress on the supporting ligaments of the breast. Both of these contribute to sagging of the breast. This can be combined with an Augmentation, using implants or fat grafting.

Hospital

This operation is performed as a day procedure in a fully accredited hospital under General Anaesthesia.

Recovery

Depending on the job you have, it is best to have at least 2 weeks off work, and/or help with small children for this time. You will need to wear a support bra for 6-8 weeks whilst you heal. You should avoid intense exercise during this time.

Fees

The total fee has 4 components, the Surgeon's fee, the Anaesthetic fee, the Hospital fee, and a histopathology fee if any breast tissue is removed..
The Surgeon's fee is $8000, the Anaesthetic fee is $2100 - 2800, the Hospital fee is ~$5000 and the histopathology fee is ~$500.

Medicare eligibility

Breast lift surgery is considered a cosmetic procedure in most cases, so Medicare and health insurance will not help to cover your costs. Conditions such as breast asymmetry, congenital defects and breast cancer may qualify for a Medicare item number. This will be determined by Dr Lisa during your consultation, and any applicable numbers will be given to you to check with your fund.
